By KIM NORTH
For The Intelligencer
HUNTINGTON -- For the first time since 2006, Wheeling Park has three state wrestling champions in the same season. The Patriots went 3-for-3 in the championship finals Tuesday night as the 74th edition of the West Virginia Class AAA tournament came to a close here inside Mountain Health Arena.
Stevie Mitchell (152), Erick Brothers Jr. (220) and Charlie Tamburin (285) all stood high atop the awards podium. Mitchell completed his cycle while Brothers Jr. repeated in dominating fashion and Tamburin overcame huge weight differences in all four of his matches.
Mitchell placed fourth as a freshman at 138 and was third at the same weight as a sophomore. His junior season he was runnerup at 145.
He won by injury default over Parkersburg South freshman Robert Shockey with 1-minute, 19-seconds remaining in the bout. Mitchell was leading 13-5 when the two combatants went out of bounds awkwardly, with Shockey clutching his left knee in pain.
After several minutes with the tournament's training staff, it was determined he was unable to continue.
"It feels great. I've been dreaming about this all my life," Mitchell said. "I've never won a state championship in anything."
Mitchell trailed 2-0 early in the match but ran off 11 of the next 12 points for a 11-3 advantage at the end of two periods. He never let up.
"I knew I had to keep the pressure on. I knew he wasn't going to take any shots," Mitchell offered. "That's what I did."
Mitchell capped his career with a 128-29 record. He was 21-1 in this abbreviated campaign.
Brothers Jr. recorded four first-period pins in going back-to-back. He got a mat-slapper in 1:22 in the finals over Greenbrier East's Thomas Mullins. The Patriots standout was leading 2-0 when the fall occurred.
"It feels great, especially having two under my belt. It feels a little better with this being my second because of all the craziness this season," Brothers Jr. added. "I'm proud of myself. I worked hard this year training. It paid off."
He was also happy for his training partner, Tamburin.
"It just proves how hard we work in the (wrestling) room. The coaches set a high standard for us and they expect us to meet that standard."
Brothers Jr. finished 20-1 and is 58-8 in his two years.
Tamburin overcame a 2-0 deficit late in the second period and about 40 pounds to Parkersburg's Jeffrey Jones, but the senior evened things up with a reversal before the second period ended. He then used another reversal for his victory.
"It feels great to accomplish something you have always wanted. I've wrestled all my life and now I'm here," Tamburin said. "It was a good match. I came out on top. That's about all I can say."
Tamburin was 17-1 this season and 55-20 for his career.
"It's pretty cool to see us get three state champions. Park hasn't done that since I was in high school," Wheeling Park head coach Brian Leggett (a Parkersburg High grad) allowed. "We went 3-for-3 in the finals. so that was cool, as well.
"All three of those guys are very deserving of state titles. I even got a little emotional after Stevie won because I know how much time and work he has put in for four years," Leggett added. "To get a win in his last high school match was special.
"Erick was very dominating. To go out there and dominate like he did there in the finals was something special," Leggett continued. "It's going to be fun watching Erick for two more years.
"For Charlie to come back and win the state after losing in the finals (at 220) last year and then losing in the regional finals this year, that's something special."
The Patriots had a quartet of other placewinners in freshman Adam Carman (106); junior Nate Shelek (132); sophomore Adam Angel (170) and Hunter Nixon (182).
Carman took fifth with a 16-0 technical fall over Morgantown's Garret Spohn to end his campaign at 14-7.
Shelek finished third for the second consecutive season after a 3-2 decision over Parkersburg South's Trent Jones. Shelek finished 16-3.
Angel was up two spots from last year after a 7-1 setback to University's Dakota Hagedorn to finish fourth and end 19-6.
Nixon was a third-placer after receiving a injury default from Spring Mills' Nevin Milburn. Nixon finished 7-1. He was also third as a freshman and missed last season with an injury.
John Marshall's Ethan Cook (106) and Matthew Tschappat (113) placed third and sixth, respectively.
Cook decisioned St. Albans' Mac Payne, 4-2, to end his sophomore season with a 15-3 record. Cook improved three places from 2020.
Tschappat dropped a 2-1 decision to Princeton's Trace Hatfield to finish 16-4 as a senior.
"I'm proud of the way these two guys wrestled this week. They both battled and foudntheir way on the podium," John Marshall head coach Ryan Asbury said. "This is Ethan's second time placing so we're looking for big things from his the next two seasons. For Matthew, as a senior, it was nice to see him rewarded for all of his hard work."
Brooke's Braydon Demaria (120) took fifth with a 5-2 decision of Buckhannon-Upshur's Liam Garcia. Demaria, a senior, ended 14-5.
"It feels good. I'm glad for Braydon," Brooke head coach Doug Sizemore said. "He's been the hardest worker in our room for four years and he's been knocking on the door for three years. He finally got in this year.
Sizemore said Demaria's performance is something for the younger kids to look up to.
"He definitely left a legacy of hard work," Sizemore said. "He will be the one that we are talking about down the road as someone that teh kids looked up to."
The Class A-AA tournament begins today at 11 a.m. with one round of action.

MORGANTOWN -- Already a highly decorated wrestler during his high school days at Oak Glen, it didnát take Peyton Hall long to make a name for himself on the collegiate level.
Hall, a 4-time West Virginia state champion and 3-time OVAC Ron Mauck Tournament titlist, began his WVU career the same way he ended his days as a Golden Bear, by winning. The true freshman went 3-0 against Kent State, Ohio University and Virginia Tech as the Mountaineers compiled a 2-1 mark, losing to the No. 8 ranked Hokies.
Competing at 165 pounds, Hall recorded a pair of major decisions and a decision in his matches. He blanked the Bobcatsá Colt Yinger, ranked 22nd in two national polls, 9-0. Yinger wrestled at Nelsonville-York. He also recorded a 9-3 decision over Kent Stateás James Limongi before notching a 13-4 major nod over Virginia Techás Jordan Florence.
The Chester native finished the weekend with 10 takedowns and a pair of reversals.
âIt was really cool. I was excited,ã Hall said via telephone earlier this week. âIt was cool to wrestle against some of the schools I grew up watching on TV.ã
He admitted to having some nerves.
âI was a little anxious before my first match because it had been so long since Iáve had some actual competition against someone besides my practice partners,ã he allowed. âBut when the whistle went off, I was ready.ã
His performances didnát go unnoticed as he moved into a pair of national polls this week. Hall is ranked No. 24 according to FloWrestling and is listed as 30th by The Open Mat.
Hall said 165 pounds is just right for him.
âI feel really strong because I donát have to cut much weight,ã he said. âI feel wrestling bigger guys during practice helps me, too. I feel strong and Iám healthy.ã
Hall won state titles at 120, 132, 138 and 152 while at Oak Glen.
He is one of three WVU matmen in the national rankings, and one of two from the Ohio Valley.
The Mountaineersá Noah Adams (197) is No. 1 in FloWrestling, The Open Mat and Intermat. The Independence High grad extended his winning streak to 35 straight matches, which dates back to last season when he was favored to win the NCAA title at 197 pounds.
Weirás Caleb Rea (141), despite battling some health problems, is listed No. 22 by The Open Mat.
Parkersburg South alum Brayden Roberts also made his WVU debut at 149 pounds. He posted two wins before suffering an 11-3 setback to No. 12 Bryce Andonian of Virginia Tech in his final match of the day.
John Marshall product Anthony Carman (184) went 1-2 on the day. His lone triumph came via a 12-3 major decision over Ohioás Colin McNamara.
West Virginia welcomes Bucknell and No. 19 Oklahoma for a tri-meet on Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m.
WLUás Cook Honored by MEC
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. West Liberty Universityás Garrett Cook has been honored as the first Mountain East Conference Wrestler of the Week.
Cook, a sophomore 184-pounder from Weirton Madonna where he was a state champion, was recognized by the conference after playing a key role in helping Coach Danny Irwinás Hilltoppers post a pair of impressive wins in Saturdayás triangular season opener.
Turning in two dominating performances, Cook notched first-period falls in both matches. Barely having time to break a sweat, the sophomore stopped Glenvilleás Christian Ramsey at the 2:02 mark and the Battlersá Chiedu Chika in 2:41.
The Black-and-Gold, which was recently ranked No. 1 in the MEC preseason poll, will be back on the road next Saturday when they head to Fairmont State for a triangular with the host Falcons and Glenville State.
The MEC Tournament will be held at West Libertyás ASRC on Feb. 6.
Barnesville Winter Duals
Five teams will take part in the inaugural Barnesville Duals Saturday in western Belmont County. In addition to the host Shamrocks, also participating are Indian Creek, Mayfield, Southern Local and St. Clairsville.
Action begins at 10 a.m. with Barnesville and Southern Local competing, as well as Division I Mayfield versus Indian Creek.
Round 2 is tentatively set for 11:15 a.m. with Barnesville and St. Clairsville doing battle, along with Southern Local and Mayfield.

The fifth, and final, round has an approximate start time of 3 with Barnesville and Mayfield squaring off, along with Indian Creek and St. Clairsville.
Numerous state-ranked individuals, according to Borofan, will be competing.

2020-21 Duals

By KIM NORTH
Times Leader Sports Writer

ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Although there are 14 weight classes in a high school wrestling, it only takes one unexpected result to turn around a dual meet. St. Clairsville, unfortunately, can attest to that.
The Red Devils, who were unblemished in 11 head-to-head competitions and ranked No. 1 in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 4A standings, and Dover, second to Steubenville in the Class 5A listing at 13-3, were deadlocked at 12 after four bouts Wednesday night. However, it was the fifth match -- at 132 pounds -- that turned the tide, according to Red Devils head coach Joel Sansone.
St. Clairsville senior Koen Kish, ranked No. 1 in the Division II by Borofan and headed to NCAA Division I Clarion State, led Doverás Pedro Garcia 4-2 before an illegal slam by Kish ended the match with 1:17 left in the first period. Garcia lay on the mat for several minutes but couldnát continue and was awarded the win by disqualification, resulting in six team points as the Tornadoes went ahead 18-12.
Dover went on to win five of the remaining nine matches to claim a thrilling, 40-36, victory on John Jenkins Court. St. Clairsville did, however, defeat Buckeye Local, 58-18, in the opening dual. The short-handed Panthers (4-4) also fell to the Tornadoes, 66-9.
âWhen Koen lost by disqualification I knew we didnát have a chance. That was a match that we needed. That was a 12-point swing,ã Sansone said. âIt was a terrible situation. Hopefully he learns to realize that when heás wrestling an inferior opponent, those guys arenát really trying that much, so he needs to finish a little easier with control.
âIt is what it is. Weáll get back in the room tomorrow (Thursday) and learn from our mistakes,ã he added. âI told the guys the in these tough duals, one match is going to decide them. We needed someone to step up and make up the difference but it didnát work out that way. Everybody wrestled hard and gave it their best effort and at the end of the day, thatás all you can ask of as a coach.ã
The Red Devils did recover and led 30-28 after senior Austin DaRe recorded a lightning-quick, 31-second pin at 170, but Dover used a pin and decision at 182 and 195, respectively, for a 37-30 advantage.
Reese Skaggs, one of four seniors competing on Senior Night, pulled the hosts to within one, 37-36, with a 26-second mat-slapper, but the Tornadoes won the 285-pound match, 7-5, to secure the win.
Junior Gannon Kazmirski (106/113) had a pair of falls in less than a minute. He won in 56 and 44 seconds.
Freshman Harrison Kazmirski (120/126) had a 40-second pin and won by forfeit, while senior Caden Stout (145) was awarded a pair of forfeits.
Josh DeNoble (138) is the other Red Devils senior.
BUCKEYE LOCAL was paced by senior Brian Palmer Jr. (152/160). Ranked No. 1 at 152 in Division III, recorded a pin and a decision.
âHe is very focused. He wants all of the tough matches. He wants the best competition, so Iám trying to find it for him,ã Buckeye Local head coach Guy Nestor, who is in his second go-round as the Panthers boss, said.
Nestor was also pleased with the effort of Alexio Morales (195) who won both of his matches, one by pin.
âItás rubbing off on some of the kids in the room,ã Nestor said of the success Palmer Jr. has enjoyed during his career.
The Panthers only had six wrestlers in uniform.
âWeáve got two in quarantine right now,ã Nestor said. âWeáve got a good core of eight and we are pretty solid with them all in the lineup.ã

West Virginia winter sports will be delayed to March 1st. With this start date for West Virginia schools and our Ohio schools into their state tournament run we will be unable to hold the OVAC “Ron Mauck” Wrestling Championships this season.

I do want to extend my thanks to the members on the committee that put in the time and effort developing a format and a timeline (more than once) in an attempt to have a tournament for our student-athletes.

We will name our dual meet Champions for the 2020-21 season based on the dual rankings at the end of the West Virginia season.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- When the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference announced the cancellation of its Bill Hinegardner Dual Meet Championships due to the global COVID pandemic, it put more emphasis on dual meets themselves as they will determine the three division champions.
Wednesday night on John Jenkins Court, St. Clairsville (7-0) remained perfect on the season with convincing victories over visiting Caldwell and Meadowbrook. The Red Devils blasted the Redskins 70-6 before romping past the Colts, 72-10.
âObviously, they are very important this season. When I started re-vamping our schedule due to COVID, I just wanted to get our kids the best matchups possible,ã St. Clairsville head coach Joel Sansone said. âWith there not being any major tournaments, itás all about the duals. We had to get the kids to buy-in to the fact that the duals are important, and they are. Itás a team win now so everyone has to do their part to help the team.
âHopefully, at the end of the season, the standings will take care of themselves.ã
St. Clairsville was in second place behind Beaver Local in Class 4A entering last night. The Beavers were 12-0.
Five different Red Devils recorded a pair of pins each. They were Gannon Kazmirski (106/113); Caden Stout (145), Mason McCort (152), Nathan Witsberger (160) and Jacob Walker (182). Kazmirskiás falls came in 30 and 52 seconds, while McCort needed 1:00 and 58-seconds. Stoutás pins came in 1:11 and 1:32. Walker had a 58-second fall and another in 3:29 and Witsberger won in 1:59 and 5:13.
Senior standouts Koen Kish (132) and Reese Skaggs (220) each had pins in less than a minute. Koen won in 28 seconds against Meadowbrook, while Skaggs needed 56 ticks against Caldwell.
âWeáre improving each and every time we take the mats, whether it be in practice or during a dual,ã Sansone continued. âThe kids are working harder and harder every day.ã
Senior Austin DaRe (170) recorded his 100th career win when he posted a 12-2 major decision against Caldwell.
St. Clairsville is back in action Saturday at noon when it hosts Athens, Harrison Central and Newcomerstown.
Barnesville 57, Martins Ferry 24
AT BARNESVILLE, the youthful Shamrocks (6-4) won the first eight bouts -- all by pin -- and never looked back in rolling past the visiting Purple Riders (2-4).
A.J. Francis (132) had the quickest of the falls as he needed a mere 12 ticks. Other first-period pins came from Reese Skaggs (106, 45 seconds); Griffen Stephen (120, 0:27); Logan Tague (138, 0:29) and Caiden Thornton (145, 0:40). Dakota King (113, 2:53), Skyler King (126, 1:34), Robby Nixon (152, 1:02) and Ayden Hannahs (182, 3:30) also won by falls.
Cameron Woods (170) earned a decision.
Martins Ferryás George Hulsey (160, 1:43), Kameron Hughes (195, 3:36), Zak Dobson (220, 2:10) and Zeke Bruney (285, 0:19) all won by pin.
Martins Ferry treks to Morristown Saturday for a noon triangular with Philo.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- It was hard to tell the winning coach from the losing coach following Tuesday nights dual high school wrestling match between Martins Ferry and St. Clairsville.
The Red Devils built leads of 13-6, 28-12 and 31-18 only to watch the Purple Riders battle back, but fall a point shy, 31-30, on John Jenkins Court.
It was a lot closer than I expected but, honestly, I just told the guys that I was more worried about getting matches, St. Clairsville head coach Joel Sansone said. Were a little short-handed right now. We've got a couple of starters out of the lineup. We tried to drop a weight class here and there, sometimes it worked out, sometimes it didn't.
St. Clairsville (5-0) competed without OVAC runner-up and two-time Division III state qualifier Chad Stout and Josh DeNoble.
Hats off to Martins Ferry. They brought it, Sansone added. They have a lot more experience this year so far than we do. We haven't seen the level of competition that Martins Ferry has so far, and that's not taking anything away from the competition that we have faced. This is just what we needed ... a good, hard-fought match where a lot of guys got a good six minutes in.
The guys who won, they know what they are doing right but they've also got some things to work, he continued. The guys that lost, they have to realize they have to work a little harder in the (wrestling) room because you cant mimic good competition.
Martins Ferry (1-3), which competed without Zak Dobson (220), led 6-0 when Kyler Oliver was awarded a forfeit at 106.
A decision by Gannon Kazmirski (113); pin by Zach McKeever (120) and major decision by Harrison Kazmirski (126) gave the hosts a 13-6 advantage, but Martins Ferry closed to within a point, 13-12, when Tyler Donaher (132) won by forfeit.
St. Clairsville won the next three weight classes for a 16-point bulge as NCAA Division I signee Koen Kish (138) and Mason McCort (145) registered back-to-back pins in 1:38 and 3:34, respectively, and Nathan Witsberger (152) earned a come-from-behind, 5-4, nod over Shayden Fogle. Kish is headed to Clarion, Pa.
Martins Ferry's Chase Goff and St. Clairsvilles Austin DaRe squared off at 160 with the Purple Riders returning state qualifier leading 4-2 after one period. However, the Red Devils senior held a 9-6 lead in the second period before Goff secured a reversal that resulted in a pin at the 3:43 mark.
After a double forfeit at 170, St. Clairsvilles Jacob Walker (182) rallied past Johnny McFarland, 7-5, with a takedown just before time expired in the third period. That gave the hosts a 31-18 lead with three matches to go.
However, Martins Ferry used a third-period pin (5:37) by Noah Duck (195) and a hard-earned, 5-4, decision by Kameron Hughes (220) over state-ranked Reese Skaggs to pull to within, 31-27, entering the final match of the night. Hughes weighed in at 181.1 while Skaggs tipped the scales at 206.2.
Needing a pin to complete the comeback, the Purple Riders had to settle for a 3-1 decision by Zeke Bruney in falling one point short.
Obviously, the dual didn't turn out the way we wanted but I am happy. I thought everyone wrestled well, Martins Ferry head coach Chad Ware said. With the younger guys its one little thing here and there ... a takedown here or an escape there. It changes the whole complexion of the dual, but its experience for everybody.
We ended on a high note by bumping Kameron up and he beat (Reese) Skaggs who is one of the top 220-pounders in the state, Ware said.
He also had praise for Goff.
Chase is a gamer. He has a motor where he is non-stop, Ware noted. Hes always in a match, no mater what the score is.
Both teams are back in action next Tuesday when the Americas Best Value Inn Invitational takes place, starting at 10 a.m.

BARNESVILLE -- Only in 2020! For 50 years organizers of the Barnesville Doan Ford Invitational wrestling tournament crowned a single team champion. The 51st annual event ended with two champs.
Barnesville entered the championship round with a 19-point lead and 11 wrestlers earning a place on the podium. However, Division II powerhouse Louisville crowned six individual titlists and had a fourth-placer in storming back to draw even with the Shamrocks at 180 points.
Barnesville saw all four of its finalists fall short in their championship matches, and just three of the other seven came out on top.
âWe had 11 guys in the final round but not coming away with a champion, itás hard to win a tournament,ã Barnesville head coach Jayson Stephen said. âI thought we had a couple of shots to get a champion there, but it didnát work out that way.
âWeáll get in the (wrestling) room this week and work towards whatever lies down the road,ã he added.
The Leopards, who won the 2020 Ohio Dual Meet Championship over national power St. Paris Graham, slowly but surely kept creeping up on the Shamrocks. Their journey was complete when 285-pounder Cameron Brazek pinned Martins Ferryás Zeke Bruney in 2-minutes, 45-seconds in the final match of the tournament.
âI know they (Louisville) had a couple of guys out, but you still have to show up and wrestle,ã Stephen said. âI make the schedule for these kids to try and wrestle the best competition they can. If you come out with a loss, you learn from it and keep working towards the end of the year and Columbus. Thatás what we are working for.ã
Finishing second for the Shamrocks were Reese Stephens (106), Griffen Stephen (120), Cameron Woods (160) and Jacob Boulet (170). Skyler King (126) was third while Logan Tague (132) and Jadyn Lucas (285) were both fourth. Dakota King (113) and George Hoover (138) took fifth. Robby Nixon (152) and Orion Smith (195) were sixth.
In addition to Brazek, other titlists were Dylan Rhodes (106), Garett Lautzenheiser (126), Pablo Castro (132), Brenden Seevers (182) and Noah Peterson (220).
Martins Ferry took third in the team standings with 116 points. The Purple Riders had a trio of runnersup in Kameron Hughes (195), Zak Dobson (220) and Zeke Bruney (285). Chase Goff (170) finished fifth, with Dylan Ward (106) and George Hulsey (145) were sixth.
âWeáre a young team. Weáve only got three seniors,ã Martins Ferry head coach Chad Ware said. âIám happy with the team finish, but the finals, obviously you donát want to go 0-3, but that gives the kids something to work for.
The lone local champion was Indian Creekás Austin Starr (195). He decisioned Hughes 6-2 to defend the title he won last year at 170 when he pinned the Purple Rider.
Other Redskins reaching the podium were Dom Paterra (145) who was second; C.J. Spencer (138) and Jeremy Brown (160) both third; Tyler Sipes (120) finished fifth; and Daniel Ross (132) sixth.
Indian Creek placed seventh with 91 points.
Other individual titlists included Lima Central Catholicás Gavin Caprella (113); Troy Christianás Jason Shaffer (120) and Connor Havill (170); West Holmesá Tucker Kaufman (138); Newcomerstownás Logan Hursey (145) and Coltin Meek (160); and River Valleyás Nathan Cadle (152).
Caprella, who is ranked No. 1 in Division III by Borofan, defeated Hawkenás Patrick Reineke, who is No. 4, by a 7-2 count to earn the Most Outstanding Wrestler award, which is voted on by the tournament coaches. Cadle, who pinned his way through four matches in a mere 2:55, was presented with the Peck Award for the most pins in the least amount of time in the championship bracket. He had three falls in less than 38 seconds.

Dear Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches,

I hope this email finds all of your families’ safe as we navigate the 2020-21 school year.  The purpose of this email is to update our coaches on the newest developments for the upcoming season, as well as, inform you about a few important dates for the 2020-21 wrestling season.

As always, if you should have questions, please reach out to your district representatives or send us your questions via the website (ohswca.org).

1.) The most important issue is our Return to Mat Plan for the season.  Our Restart Committee, led by Shawn Andrews, has been meeting regularly with Tyler Brooks and the rest of the group which includes several different stakeholders.  Per Tyler’s email (September 16th), no changes have been made. However, wrestling specific concerns are still being reviewed by the Governor’s Office.

We are committed to having a season and we will do whatever it takes to make that happen.  Please be patient as we watch the fall sport seasons closely and tweak our plan.

2.) We were saddened to hear about the cancellation of the OHSAA State Team Championships.  This change was made by the OHSAA and was purely a financial decision. Based on that decision, the OHSWCA has met and is planning to host the event in some capacity for the 20-21 wrestling season.  We are doing research and putting together a plan for the event, however, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered by the Ohio Department of Health, the Governor’s Office, and the OHSAA.  As those meetings continue, we will keep you posted.

Here are our initial thoughts as we begin the planning process:

We would use the previous model when our association started the event over a decade ago.  We are compiling data from the 2019-20 District Tournaments (see example attached from the Central District) and would like to host District events with the top 2, 4, or 8 teams depending upon the recommendation of the state leadership.  These teams would be based on their returning qualifiers from last year.  We realize it is not a perfect system, but it is a realistic goal based on the limitations and logistics.  Each district would have one representative advance to the state final four which would be held in different locations based on availability (Division I, II, and III).

We will be soliciting schools to see if they can host these district and state events.  We’ve been in contact with the State Officials Association and they are behind the decision to help “save” the event.

Please stay tuned for more information via email, Twitter @ohswca, and our website moving forward.

3.) We are also excited to offer our Ohio Wrestling Coaches Convention on Saturday, October 24-Sunday, October 25.  This will be in conjunction with the NWCA and be a virtual convention.  We’ve kept the cost down ($50 which includes membership) and we are excited to offer over 40 videos from the NWCA library and several videos (live and pre-recorded) for our Ohio Coaches.  We intend to have at least one live session per day and will offer all coaches access to these videos for 3 months after the convention.

We hope to have the online link live one month prior to the event (September 28th is our target).

4.) We are still planning on hosting the Girls State Tournament on February 20-21, 2021 at Hilliard Davidson High School.

5.) Finally, we will be releasing the 2020 Coach of the Year winners via our website and Twitter account throughout the next week.

Thanks again for your continued support and we look forward to another great season in Ohio Wrestling.

The OHSWCA Executive Committee

Re:       Future of the Dual Team Wrestling Tournament

In an administrator’s update that was emailed to all schools this afternoon, it was announced that the OHSAA Dual Team Wrestling Tournament would be suspended for the 2020-21 school year.

It saddens me to relay this information to the wrestling community.  We all know that the dual team tournament provides a unique team environment and atmosphere for our sport that the individual tournament simply cannot.  I don’t know what the future holds for the dual team tournament, if and when it could be resumed, or when that determination would be made.  I just wanted to pass this information along to you as quickly as possible for planning purposes.

I hope to provide an update to all wrestling schools by the end of next week as we set our eyes on the 20-21 wrestling season and how it fits within the current Ohio Department of Health’s (ODH) orders.
